FAQ · Garment Care

Questions,
answered clearly.

From everyday dry cleaning to delicate fabrics, wedding dresses and UK-wide postal service, here are some of the questions customers ask us most often.

Careful inspection of fabric and pattern before treatment
Before You Ask

A little clarity before you leave or post a garment.

Garments differ in fabric, construction, age, previous treatment and condition, so the correct process depends on the individual item in front of us.

We assess each garment rather than treating every item exactly the same way — the questions below explain what that means in practice, and what it means for you.

Please Read Before Leaving Or Posting A Garment

Some garments are accepted on an owner's-risk basis.

Certain garments require additional care because their fabric, construction, age, previous treatment or condition may make the outcome less predictable. The following categories are handled on a full owner's-risk and best-results basis:

We will always use our professional judgement and take the greatest reasonable care, but for these garments the final result cannot be guaranteed.

If you are not comfortable with these conditions, please do not leave the garment with us or send it by post or courier — speak to us first, and we'll help you understand what to expect.

Frequently Asked Questions

Everything customers ask us most.

General Questions

We're based in Islington, London, with a local workshop.

Yes. We're family-run, with more than 50 years of combined experience across the team.

Ordinary garments can be discussed as normal, but unusual, delicate, valuable, vintage or difficult-to-assess items should ideally be discussed first — sending a photograph via WhatsApp is often the easiest way.

Delicate & Specialist Garments

Silk requires careful assessment and is accepted on a full owner's-risk and best-results basis — we can't promise a particular outcome.

Garments without care labels are accepted on a full owner's-risk and best-results basis. Without manufacturer instructions, the appropriate treatment relies on our professional judgement.

Yes, where assessment suggests treatment is appropriate — but vintage garments are accepted on a full owner's-risk and best-results basis, since age, previous wear, weakened fibres, dyes, construction and previous treatments can all affect the outcome. We can't guarantee restoration.

Items with intricate embellishment, unusual linings, structured construction, delicate trims, older fabric or heavy decoration may need individual assessment, and are typically accepted on an owner's-risk basis.

Previous Water Treatment

If a garment was originally intended for dry cleaning but has since been washed or otherwise processed with water, its behaviour may have changed — this can include shrinkage, colour movement, distortion, or changes in texture, finish or construction strength. These garments are accepted on a full owner's-risk and best-results basis. Please tell us about any previous washing, cleaning or treatment before we process the garment.

Dry Cleaning

Treatment depends on the fabric, construction, condition, care information and the garment itself — we assess before we decide.

No. Stain removal depends on the type of stain, its age, the fabric, previous treatment, colour and construction. We can't guarantee removal.

It's assessed individually and may need further discussion before treatment — see our owner's-risk notice above for the categories this typically applies to.

Wedding Dresses

This can be discussed as part of our UK-wide postal and courier service — please contact us first with photographs and details. See our Wedding Dress Care page for more.

Yes, this can be discussed, but each dress is assessed individually because of its fabric, lace, beading, embroidery, stains, construction, age and condition. We can't guarantee stain removal or restoration.

We can discuss the available care and preservation options with you — please get in touch to talk through your requirements. See our Wedding Dress Care page for more detail.
